Hey Everyone!!! Can you believe it’s already October?!?! Wow!! Where does the time go???
October is always such a crazy month!! A month of testing ALL of your kiddos on ALL of their skills for the first time! Soooo time consuming!!! Thank goodness for ESGI!!! What would I do without them?? What a time saver! A month of Parent/Teacher conferences. A month of pumpkins and Halloween CRAZINESS and fun!!! And to kick it all off, we do Fire Safety!!
Last week was our Fire Safety unit! And, to add to all of my craziness, I am trying to update ALL of my O.L.D. Center packs this year!!! YIKES!!! I made my first centers back in 2011!!!!!! This was when Common Core was BRAND SPANKIN’ new …so, my centers were far from aligned!! And, this was the days of NO CLIPART!!!! Scrappin Doodles was LITERALLY your only safe option. (Thank goodness for them.) and fonts….well, Smiley Monster was used on just about EVERYTHING!!! Ha!!!!
Anyway, if you bought ANY of my packs back in the old days when teaching blogs were new to the world…then, PLEASE…I’M BEGGING YOU!!! Go download them AGAIN!!! Completely erase that old thing from your computer!! It was just downright embarrassing!!!! LOL! Seriously take a look for yourself at the covers alone:
The new pack is completely Common Core aligned! There are ways to differentiate EVERY center AND there are “I can” statements for each one to help your kiddos work more independently!!
You can check them out in my TPT store by clicking on the picture below:
There are 4 Math:
And 4 literacy:
For the sentence building one, and any center that has multiple pieces for each task-you HAVE to be organized!! Be sure to make little envelope pockets to store the pieces in and teach your kiddos to be responsible about picking them up and putting them away before they get a new one out! I cannot even describe to you the difference that this little tip makes!!!!
We LOVE to kick off our Fire Saftey unit with this SUPER fun story!! Miss Mingo and The Fire Drill is a funny story about a class of animals and the do’s and don’ts of the dreaded Fire Drill! The kids just love this story!!
Click on the Picture below to see it on Amazon.
After we have read the story and talked about what to do in the event of a fire drill, we make a chart of things to remember:
The next day, we talk about the animals in the story. We go back and discuss what each animal did when it was scared. We make connections to our own feelings and think about a time when we were scared. Here is some of our thinking:
We also “write” about the steps that take place during a fire drill.
And, of course, the kids love doing this Miss Mingo art project!!
All of these activities can be found in my Miss Mingo pack! click on the picture below to check it out!!
